I’ve been helping to run shows at that place for nearly 10 years now, so this song certainly has a special place in my heart. 100songs project COMPLETE!
Hi folks! I am proud to say I have completed my work on the #100songs project. This has been quite an endeavor and has spanned about 2 years’ time, but it is now complete. I set out to write 100 songs, which I did. Then I said I would release 50 of those songs, fully produced and mixed, which I’ve now done! Without you, my faithful subscribers, I would be nowhere near done with this. It took me a bit longer than expected, but what project isn’t that way?Now comes your part in the creative process… I would like to ask you to follow this link and download all the songs into whatever it is you listen to music with, give it all a listen and tell me which songs you think would work best in a music video!! My next step is to create 10 videos from the top most chosen songs by you!! I have to admit, I’ve already started working on the video for Garbage Night (hoping to complete it by the end of this month) and, as you know, have completed the video for House Show.These videos are only going to get better. I’m educating myself daily on video recording and editing techniques and am busting my butt to get this content out there!! I’ve got a green screen studio set up in the garage and a black curtain hung in my recording studio. I’ve bought a really nice camera and have the video editing software necessary. I think all the pieces are in place!Will you please check out the songs we’ve all recorded and tell us which ones you think could make a good video in the comments section of this? Song #49 – Feather
This is the second to last song of my #100songs project! Nearly complete!! And I want you all to know, you can expect the first of my #100songs music videos by the end of the month!! We have been working on Garbage Night, a favorite of many, but also we’ve been putting together house show footage from Meddlesome Lab for my song House Show!! It’s going to probably be done by the end of the week.
Laura and I are expecting our baby in 10 days, so who knows what might happen between now and then, but I’ve got my green screen studio all set up finally, got my camera, lights and a ton of willpower! This thing is happening, finally, after years and years of planning and working toward it, I am finally beginning my work as a video artist.
I’ll send you all a bunch of pictures next week so you can see the progress. I have to say, though, I still need more subscribers if this is going to work out. If you know anyone who might be interested, please give them a little push. Ideally, I would have a minimum of 100 subscribers. Right now we are 22 strong!!! That’s amazing. You 22 people are my core. You really keep me going through every passing day. It’s not an easy path I have chosen, and I wish I had a bit more recognition for my art, but I also feel extremely lucky to get to do this as my means of survival. I hope you are satisfied with the work I’m presenting you!!
Anyway, in the coming weeks I will release my first video of the 100songs series, House Show. It will be exclusive to you, my fine patrons, and you will be able to offer feedback, what could improve or what you like, marketing techniques, etc, so that when I actually release it into the rest of the world it will be that much better because you will have acted as a sounding board for my work.

Song #48 – Yup’s Birthday
Hello, my dear subscribers. We are in the homestretch now of this massive project. I am so happy to finally be finishing up and to get started on the video portion of this multi-year endeavor. Yup’s Birthday… well, I must say, I actually wrote this song nearly 20 years ago, haha! But! To my defense in this project, I have actually written more than 100 songs and have more to release than the 50 I originally projected, so I’m not shirking on my responsibilities or cheating… actually I’m giving you guys some extras!! In the process of writing all the horn parts for my 100songs project I decided to finally give this song the life it deserved. I mean, it’s been sitting in my back pocket for nearly 20 years… It must be growing tired of constantly getting sat upon. I think I made a wise choice. I originally intended for this song to be donated to the Bernie Sanders campaign. I am a big fan of his and am proud to have organized two fundraisers here in Rochester, one at the Historic German House and one at Anthology, both having raised enough money to open a campaign office. Both also brought a ton of people together… firstly, I got to pull all of my favorite Rochester artists together for truly inspiring evenings, but we also pulled together with a ton of activists, artists and open minded forward thinkers for two truly revolutionary events. I was a bit bummed he didn’t get the nomination, but the system is quite corrupt, as we all know. I haven’t given up, and I’m glad Bernie hasn’t either! He’s definitely inspired a ton of people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in the political process, and that is where the true change will occur.

Song #45 – Murder at the Bugjar
So… it is indeed a shame that this man died on that night in the summer of 2012. Hard to believe four years have passed since then… Here’s the little bit I was able to find out online about it. I tried contacting his family regarding the song I had written, thinking maybe they would appreciate that someone had put thought and work into it… but wasn’t able to reach them. I haven’t given up yet though. I’m hoping that through putting this song out maybe it’ll get to them and offer a bit of extra something to their loss. I don’t know. Anyway, here’s what City wrote about Deavoghn:
Deavoghn Hernandez-Ruffin was shot and later died. The 21-year-old had attended the rap battle to watch his cousin perform. Family members say he loved to dance and was a good father. He worked at the Walmart on Hudson Avenue.
He had spent his first Father’s Day with his daughter who spoke her first words to him, saying “da da.” Hours later, the victim spoke his last words to friends after he was shot outside the Bug Jar. He told them: “tell my family I love them.” His brother says he was trying to diffuse a situation, so it wouldn’t get out of hand.
