High Diver Video Collaboration

Whoa, cool!  This is just so awesome.  I’ve gotten to be involved in this wonderful and strange collaboration…  firstly, during the #100songs project I came up with a fun technique to get a few songs written in one day.  What I did was to make a sonic background consisting of very common pop music chord structures that repeated repeatedly.  Repeating repeatedly for the length of about 15 minutes.  I would then write a song from beginning to end over this sonic background.  I would take a break, then come back and write another song… most of these had two vocal parts that harmonized then keyboards and guitars or whatever I deemed to add.  Some really cool songs came from that #100songs project.  As a subscriber to this page you get all 50 of the fully produced songs that came out of that project.
————————————————————————————————–
In exhausting my verbal tank during this endeavor, I asked my partner, Laura Lee Jones, if I could use some of her poetry for a song.  She gave me a stack, and being the songwriter I am, I took the one with the fewest words 🙂  High Diver… the song was born!!
————————————————————————————————–
A couple months after finishing the project I happened upon a cool video by my friends Holy Sheboygan  and Dheff Films  (you can see the video here) so decided to drop them a line and see where they were at… sent them a few songs and serendipitously they happened to be planning a docusic video (documentaray / music video) about Dana Kunze.  I was like, “wow!”
 ————————————————————————————————–
They wanted to get me into the video as an actor too, but alas, I was in San Francisco on artist residency at the Convent so couldn’t get to (I think it was) Minnesota (?)… hmm… anyway, couldn’t get to the video shoot with Dana, but I will be meeting with him this summer in Lake George and hopefully planning a music show with high dives.  Maybe a sequel to the video?  Gotta find the right venue…
 ————————————————————————————————–
Very pumped about this one.  I hope you’ll join in with us spreading it far and wide.  There’s a way to get it out there, but it takes a bit of effort.  Hopefully you’ll join in bringing this art to the world.  We thank you for viewing.

100songs project COMPLETE!

Hi folks! I am proud to say I have completed my work on the #100songs project. This has been quite an endeavor and has spanned about 2 years’ time, but it is now complete. I set out to write 100 songs, which I did. Then I said I would release 50 of those songs, fully produced and mixed, which I’ve now done! Without you, my faithful subscribers, I would be nowhere near done with this. It took me a bit longer than expected, but what project isn’t that way?
Now comes your part in the creative process… I would like to ask you to follow this link and download all the songs into whatever it is you listen to music with, give it all a listen and tell me which songs you think would work best in a music video!! My next step is to create 10 videos from the top most chosen songs by you!! I have to admit, I’ve already started working on the video for Garbage Night (hoping to complete it by the end of this month) and, as you know, have completed the video for House Show.
These videos are only going to get better. I’m educating myself daily on video recording and editing techniques and am busting my butt to get this content out there!! I’ve got a green screen studio set up in the garage and a black curtain hung in my recording studio. I’ve bought a really nice camera and have the video editing software necessary. I think all the pieces are in place!
Will you please check out the songs we’ve all recorded and tell us which ones you think could make a good video in the comments section of this? If it’s too much to come up with 10, just tell me one or three! If you have ideas of how the video would be shot, by all means, put in your 2 cents, and we will see if we can take your dreams and form them! I want to give back to you for all you’ve given to me.
If you have any trouble with the download process, by all means, let me know, and I’ll do what I can to help you figure it out!
Thanks a ton. I’m so happy this day has come!!!!

House Show Official Video!!

Ha! Got one done already! Been a lot of work to put this pretty thing together. It gives me a smile almost all the way through just to see the joy in peoples’ faces and the fun stuff that got captured in these few short sessions of filming live performances at Meddlesome Lab. I’ve been helping to run shows at that place for nearly 10 years now, so this song certainly has a special place in my heart. I hope you will watch the video and glean just a bit of the cultural enrichment I’ve been blessed to recieve through such a space. This is a subscriber-only video until early next year, so please tell me what you think!! I can still make some changes before it goes out into the hard, cruel world ;0)
Thanks y’all!!

Song #49 – Feather

This is the second to last song of my #100songs project! Nearly complete!! And I want you all to know, you can expect the first of my #100songs music videos by the end of the month!! We have been working on Garbage Night, a favorite of many, but also we’ve been putting together house show footage from Meddlesome Lab for my song House Show!! It’s going to probably be done by the end of the week.

Laura and I are expecting our baby in 10 days, so who knows what might happen between now and then, but I’ve got my green screen studio all set up finally, got my camera, lights and a ton of willpower! This thing is happening, finally, after years and years of planning and working toward it, I am finally beginning my work as a video artist.

I’ll send you all a bunch of pictures next week so you can see the progress. I have to say, though, I still need more subscribers if this is going to work out. If you know anyone who might be interested, please give them a little push. Ideally, I would have a minimum of 100 subscribers. Right now we are 22 strong!!! That’s amazing. You 22 people are my core. You really keep me going through every passing day. It’s not an easy path I have chosen, and I wish I had a bit more recognition for my art, but I also feel extremely lucky to get to do this as my means of survival. I hope you are satisfied with the work I’m presenting you!!

Anyway, in the coming weeks I will release my first video of the 100songs series, House Show. It will be exclusive to you, my fine patrons, and you will be able to offer feedback, what could improve or what you like, marketing techniques, etc, so that when I actually release it into the rest of the world it will be that much better because you will have acted as a sounding board for my work.

Please spread the word and help me build this thing up!! I will certainly match your enthusiasm.

Wind blows a feather, blows a feather through my window
Cannot say whatever it’s a clever way the wind blows
Have to say I never ever felt the way I do today

Past is a present helps me see into the future
Coincidence is heaven, helps me feel, feel a purpose
Serendipitous events signal when I turn the rightest way

Don’t let go, don’t let go of dreams you have
You’re getting older, but don’t let go of dreams you have
It will unfold if you just stick tight to your path
The story’s told, it’s just for you to do the math

A banana set in front and under your toes
Makes you slip, slip and fall into what, who knows?
Suddenly something makes you stop and think a different way

You can blame it on a random set of circumstance
You can claim it, call it accident or happenstance
There’s a story to each life, and I prefer believe

Don’t let go, don’t let go of dreams you have
You’re getting older, but don’t let go of dreams you have
It will unfold if you just stick tight to your path
The story’s told, it’s just for you to do the math

Don’t let go, don’t let go, don’t let go,
Don’t let go of dreams you have
It will unfold if you just stick tight to your path
The story’s told, it’s just for you to do the math
Will you ever stop to feel alright?

Song #48 – Yup’s Birthday

Hello, my dear subscribers.  We are in the homestretch now of this massive project.  I am so happy to finally be finishing up and to get started on the video portion of this multi-year endeavor.  Yup’s Birthday… well, I must say, I actually wrote this song nearly 20 years ago, haha!  But!  To my defense in this project, I have actually written more than 100 songs and have more to release than the 50 I originally projected, so I’m not shirking on my responsibilities or cheating… actually I’m giving you guys some extras!!  In the process of writing all the horn parts for my 100songs project I decided to finally give this song the life it deserved.  I mean, it’s been sitting in my back pocket for nearly 20 years… It must be growing tired of constantly getting sat upon.  I think I made a wise choice.  The band (my band 23 Psaegz) really loves playing this one because of its hyper intensity and joyous feeling… plus it’s a great, weird birthday song!!  Can’t go wrong there 🙂  Anyway, I’ve put the song below with lyrics and chords in case you feel insane and want to play this song yourself!!  Thanks a ton for subscribing… After I finish the song project I’ll be moving over to Patreon with this for the video… switch over if you can!!

YUP’S BIRTHDAY – © ⓟ 2014 Seth Faergolzia, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

[A – F#min] Hey give it up, let’s give it up for the party
It’s a mighty fine year
Hey wrap it up, wrap it up like a birthday
Wrap it up, wrap it up, rip it open like a birthday

[B – F#min – A – E] Hey the kid’s eye starlight
Young is younger
If you take a kid from life
Young get older
Holding hands and knobs in gently
Making love and all the babies cry “Wa Ah Ah!!”

[A – F#min] Hey give it up, let’s give it up for the party
It’s a mighty fine year
Hey wrap it up, wrap it up like a birthday
Wrap it up, wrap it up, rip it open like a birthday

[Guitar solo] [B – F#min – A – E] Sorry about that
I didn’t mean it
I thought about it
Nobody means it
When they cause a pain they say
“Why, Why, Why?”
When they look at the hurt they’ve done
“Why, Why, Why?”
When they think about fixing it, say,
“Soon Soon Soon Soon Soon Soon….”
Why not now?

[A – F#min] Hey give it up, let’s give it up for the party
It’s a mighty fine year
Hey wrap it up, wrap it up like a birthday
Wrap it up, wrap it up, rip it open like a birthday

[D] Hey, go pray you, miss smelly
[G] Hey, what are you some kind of a duck
[Eb] Aw, I can’t stand this
[A] Maw, I can’t stand it anymore

What the Jennifer? Holy Kelly!!
Hey, What the Kelly?
Badadum dum

[Eb7 – C7] Dancing on the daybreak
Eating all the roughage off the ground
It’s a healthy way to live
I call you baby, hey baby
That’s what I said
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

[Eb7 – C7] Nobody can say you’re doing nothing wrong
Just like a baby, baby
Nobody can say you’re doing nothing wrong
Just like a baby, baby
Nobody can say you’re doing nothing wrong
Just like a baby, baby, baby, baby….

[Eb7 – C7] Hey give it up, let’s give it up for the party
It’s a mighty fine year
Hey wrap it up, wrap it up like a birthday
Wrap it up, wrap it up, rip it open like a birthday

Song #41 – Fever Love Arrival ready for listening!

Well hello there, my fine friends!  It’s great to be back home after a long journey overseas touring Europe.  Fever Love Arrival is the first song I’ve gotten ready for you upon my return.  Tremendous thanks to all the many, many people who came out to support us on our tour through Germany, England, Scotland, Austria and Switzerland.  We played many fine shows and met amazing people in beautiful places.  Wow.  I’m still dumbfounded at the great reception we received.  Regrettably, I have not been able to get much work done on the song project, but we are definitely nearing our end!  I’ve begun a new subscription site on Patreon!  Though I will continue to run this site and put my work up on here for you all, I’m shifting slowly over to that site for my upcoming couple years of video work.  My first project will be to make a video for the song Garbage Night.  If you are interested to know more about the Patreon thing, check it out HERE!

The song:

This new song, Fever Love Arrival, is one of my favorites, but they’re all my favorites, my little babies!!  Hehe… this one is quiet and peaceful, filled with a welling up of love passion, expressed in a way I’ve not made music before.  I hope you’ll all give it a listen and download it too!  The song was recorded as part of the Multibird Kilgore Sessions at Kilgore Sound NYC.  John Kilgore is a Grammy Award winning engineer and producer.  He and co-producer Jim McElwaine were a pleasure to work with.  Both producers are seasoned veterans at recording and made us youngsters feel very comfortable through something that can often be quite uncomfortable to do.

I’d like to give a shout of thanks to my bandmates Shaun Jones, Stan Martinelli, and Dominic Marini for their extremely hard work through this last month, playing 29 shows with me in 6 different countries!  I’ll have to go through and calculate the number of miles we just traveled.  I’m sure it was in the thousands.  Most noteworthy was headlining the Hunsruck Festival in Germany… though all of our shows were superb, Hunsruck lasted the longest and the audience was insane and huge!  People were writhing and dancing and screaming and they were right there with us on an amazing journey.

We are headed back over to Europe for shows in the UK and Germany from October 5-19.  I’m back to work at the booking desk one last time before the coming baby in November!  Wish us great luck with the release of High Diver on record label Blang in London.  All the songs come from the #100songs project so it is in great part thanks to your support that this album has come to fruition.  The label is already interested in a 2nd album featuring Multibird!!!  Yay!!  Thanks folks.  I’ll try and make another posting very soon with a great many featured moments from our tour.  Till then, enjoy!!

Song #39 & #40 – Best That I Can & Cruel Empire

I love you guys.  Just so you know.  It continually hits me that I have continuous support from a tight knit group of people who actually respect my work as an artist.  I wish there were more of you sometimes, but I’m certainly thankful for the few true blues!!  Here are two songs!  More to come in the near future.  I’m leaving for tour next week so things are a bit of a scramble for me right now.  I hope you’ll all enjoy these tidbits!  Wish I could write more… these two songs sort of explain themselves though 😉

Song #23 – Maybe I Will

It seems every summer I say to myself, “This will be the summer I relax and enjoy nature and the weather etc etc”, and halfway through it I am hard at work again on some new project.  Usually I’m frustrated at it because it’ll be booking work or online band promotion or whatever… the stuff independent musicians invariably have to take care of in our day to day lives.  This year, it doesn’t feel so bad!  I’m working on multiple projects, but they are mostly artistic in nature.  We ARE planning a tour for September / October in EUROPE, but the stuff I’m mainly focused on is rehearsing my rock opera, my band, and building big puppets!!  We are premiering my rock opera all three nights of the Purple Pig Music Festival in Naples, NY, August 28, 29 and 30th!!  This is a massive undertaking with a big band and a bunch of puppets, something I’ve been working on for the past 8 years.  It’s name is 23 Psaegz.  The band was formed around this project.

Anyway, on to the 100songs project.  It may look as if I’ve slowed down in putting the songs together for you all, but the fact is, we’ve been in Black Dog, a great studio here in Rochester, NY, recording 7 new songs for the project.  In addition to that, there are producers from Belmont, North Carolina, New York City, and Brussels, Belgium working on tracks for this project.  Some really exciting productions are coming out of these talented technicians!!  Without further ado, I’d like to present a track recorded by yours truly and produced / mixed by Brian Speaker at SpeakerSonic Studio, Brooklyn, NY.

MAYBE I WILL – © ⓟ 2014 Seth Faergolzia, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

MAYBE I WILL
MAYBE I WON’T
PICK UP THE SUN WITH A LADLE MADE OF STARS
LIVE OUT MY DREAMS NO MATTER HOW BIG OR FAR THEY ARE

MOVE AND FOLLOW MY HEART, NO MATTER
NO MATTER WHERE I GO IT’S THE SAME
THEY CAN’T HOLD DOWN MY SOUL, NOT FOREVER
NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO I’LL REMAIN

MAYBE I WILL
MAYBE I WON’T
RIP A HOLE THROUGH THE FABRIC OF REALITY
MAYBE I WILL
MAYBE I WON’T
PICK UP A POSSE AND WE’LL FLY INTO A RAINBOW
MAYBE I CAN MAYBE I CAN’T
BUT IF I DON’T TRY WHAT WOULD BE THE POINT OF ME
MAYBE I WILL
MAYBE WE CAN
AT LEAST I’LL TRY AND JUMP INTO THE SKY AND SEE

MOVE AND FOLLOW MY HEART, NO MATTER
NO MATTER WHERE I GO IT’S THE SAME
THEY CAN’T HOLD DOWN MY SOUL, NOT FOREV ER
NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO I’LL REMAIN
1-2-3 INTO FOREVER
NO MATTER WHERE I GO I’LL REMAIN
THEY CAN’T HOLD DOWN MY SOUL, NOT A MINUTE LONGER
NO MATTER WHAT THEY TAKE I’LL RECLAIM

MAYBE I WILL MAYBE I WON’T
MAYBE I WILL MAYBE I WON’T
MAYBE I CAN, MAYBE I SHOULD
MAYBE THIS PLAN IS DEFINITELY GOOD
DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY GOOD

MOVE AND FOLLOW MY HEART, NO MATTER
NO MATTER WHERE I GO IT’S THE SAME
THEY CAN’T HOLD DOWN MY SOUL, NOT FOREVER
NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO I’LL REMAIN
1-2-3 INTO FOREVER
NO MATTER WHERE I GO I’LL REMAIN
THEY CAN’T HOLD DOWN MY SOUL, NOT A MINUTE LONGER
NO MATTER WHAT THEY TAKE I’LL RECLAIM

Song #22 – Baby Dinosaur

This is a song my daughter and I wrote together. She made up the lyrics, I made up the melody (although I think the melody was kind of made by both of us) so it’s kind of a children’s song!  Friends have been telling me for years I should make an album for kids.  This is the first track, and there should be a few more coming from this 100songs project… My friend Gil Mortio from Brussels, Belgium did the production, which means he did everything except for my voice and guitar… so many things!  He’s the guy who helped produce “Oh Holy Crismas” a couple years back.  He’s awesome and there will be at least two more productions by him coming in the future!  Thanks Gil!  What you did sounds amazing!!

Song #20 – Garbage Night

I originally set out to record this song because I thought it would be easy!  Boy was I wrong.  It’s been a very busy time here in my world because I’ve been adding band members to the 23 Psaegz lineup (trombone, trumpet, bass and a new drummer), so we’ve been doing extra rehearsals… I’ve also begun work on puppets for the rock opera and doing all my normal things like performing a few times a month regionally and hanging with my awesome daughter.  She was a great help in this particular recording project.  She and I enjoy going out on Wednesday nights here in Rochester looking for treasure in the garbage people put out.  This song is about that.  I’m a strong supporter of reusing and repurposing stuff.  I’m not a fan of throwing things out and using things which can only be used once.  So this is my trash anthem, haha.  In preparing for the release of this song, I thought, perhaps I should use some instruments I’ve actually found in the garbage to accompany the song… you know, living by my word… anyway, my daughter helped me to sample a huge pile of metal percussion pieces I’ve collected over the years from old lamps, or pots and pans etc.  We made a huge recording of samples then I sifted through it and made a virtual keyboard for triggering the samples.  It took an extra week of work that I didn’t know would have to happen, so the song is late, but it’s done!  I think you’ll enjoy it.  I hope you’ll hear the metal pieces in there and even listen to the extra release I put on the site for the $7 subscription members of the metal percussion only version of the song.  Enjoy!!!

Garbage Night © ⓟ 2014 Seth Faergolzia, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

There’s one night a week in this town where I live
Where you can get the things you need without a dime to give

Garbage night
Garbage night
when people put the things you need out on the curb for free

It may take a month before you see it
Maybe just a day
But while you’re looking stay alert
You never know what you’ll find along the way

It may not fit or look so perfect
A coat of paint or a couple stitches do you
Can’t be choosy when you shop in refuse

Garbage night
Garbage night
when people put the things you need out on the curb for free
Garbage night
Garbage night
No need to buy it they’ve supplied it out on the street

When I was young I had tons of fun
Picking up electronics building my time machine
I plugged it in and off I went
It sent me exactly one second into the future
I declared, “It worked, it worked!”
But nobody believed me
They were jerks, jerks
I saw then that the trash was my only friend
Again and again the treasure’s right around the bend

Garbage night
Garbage night
when people put the things you need out on the curb for free
Garbage night
Garbage night
No need to buy it they’ve supplied it out on the street

If you decide to treasure hunt at night
I won’t mind
There’s plenty out here for our kind
But please be advised
Watch out for mean guys
Not to mention bedbugs
Cockroaches might eat your eyes

Garbage night
Garbage night
when people put the things you need out on the curb for free
Garbage night
Garbage night
No need to buy it they’ve supplied it out on the street
Garbage night
Treasure night
We will find the things we need and probably some others
Garbage night treasure
When people put the thing you need out on the street.
