Multibird and the Psaegz horns crush it in the studio!!

IMG_4358
Hi folks! To all of you awesome people who have been paid subscribers through 2015 and now a bit into 2016, we are nearly over the first hurdle! I set out to record, produce and mix 50 songs over the course of this past year. Now that the year has passed, I realize that was a huge goal while interspersing additional creation of 7 giant puppets and a three night production of the first act of my rock opera… plus a month long European tour. I guess it goes with my personality that I try to do way more than I am physically able to do. It’s all because I see so much beauty in art of all forms, I want to make it all! Not a bad year, as far as years go…

But, I wanted to tell you!!! We did it! We made the recording goal!! It’s amazing to feel done with a step… I went with my new 4 piece band Multibird including members of 23 Psaegz (Shaun Jones, Dominic Marini, Stan Martinelli) to NYC this past week and did a 5 song session with John Kilgore Sound, produced in part by my good friend and former professor from Purchase College, Jim McElwaine. On the way there we had a van breakdown in Hancock, NY, a very small country town off of route 17 in upstate NY, would have been bad but for this wonderful Merry Prankster, Carol from the Woodstock crew came along and talked our ears off for hours on end, really interesting stuff, and a delightful person! It could have been a bummer, but we made it to the church (in this case, a recording session) on time! Or at least on time enough to finish the songs… Those guys are a pleasure to work with, and they’ve known some greats in the musician world. Before that only by about 2 or 3 days we were in session at Blackdog Studios in Rochester, NY recording 8 songs with band plus horns with Robert Blackburn… also a fine engineer and knowledgable producer. It’s always a learning experience to go to different studio spaces and work with these engineers. They have a totally different understanding of music and sound, and since I’ve been doing so much with recording this year, it’s been wildly helpful for my own progressive maturation! I will be releasing the remaining 13 songs over the course of February and March. It’s been a rough stretch financially so I haven’t been able to do many hours in these studios, and the mixing will cost a pretty penny, so please be patient! But also, please spread the word!

Extra – Murder at the Bugjar horn parts

So much work going on right now.  This year has been incredible and trying.  Today has been a tough one, you know, sometimes it’s just difficult to roll out of bed and go to work one floor up from where you just slept.  Sometimes that sleep just wishes to remain in your body all day because you don’t actually step out the door.  I’ve got my groove now and at 6pm I can safely say I’m going to change out of my pyjamas and go outside before the sun is completely down!  Enjoy this sketch of things to come….

Song #37 – Desk Away

Desk Away is a special song.  It is not part of the #100songs project, but I’m giving it to you all for being such patient subscribers!  I’m headed to two different studios in the coming weeks and should be done with the songs for the project by mid-February.  There will be more than the 50 I promised because I’m giving you all some unreleased material from a few years back as well.  I wrote this when my friend Payton Marovich first moved in with me a few years back, just after the conclusion of my 13 year project, Dufus.  Payton and I have become close friends and have inspired eachother musically and recorded on each other’s projects.  Pretty cool how music can make us friends.  He and I met through my music when he was living in Flagstaff, Arizona.  He moved here and has since been creating awesome music under the name Paxtor. I suggest checking it out!  This one was recorded by 23 Psaegz in an early incarnation.  This is an old pic going along with it, though I’m not sure if it has many of the same members or not… I forgot to write it down!

Desk Away – © ⓟ 2014 Seth Faergolzia, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

Where the body goes, known
Where the mind goes, nobody knows
Weaving a string in and out of your toes
Wrap all around you up to your nose

Traveled around the world on a cloud
Now that I’ve seen the whole way around
Found myself on the ground
Sound through the mountains, shouting aloud,

“I’m away from my desk, far away from my desk”

When you were born your mind was pure art
They tossed you around, gave you a name
Told you no one’s the same
You’re special, you’re different
I see that clearly, pure magic
I see you with stars and sparkles all in your eyes

“I’m away from my desk, far away from my desk”

Opening my ears, a hidden message
Muddied with noise and conversation
What to do? Who to be? Who to love? What are we?

Where will take this crazy old world
Where will you take us you crazy old girl
Will this spinning ever end
And where will it land, where will it land?
Where will it land?

“I’m away from my desk, far away from my desk”

Stay away, stay away, stay away, stay away

Song #33 – Devil, Devil (#100songs)

Hello friends and fans!  I’m happy to be nearing the end of 2015 while completing the first step my #100songs project.  I know, you’re probably like, um… it’s December 28th and you’re only on song #33.  Yeah, er, um (looks at toes, hands clasped behind back, looks up at you and…), so it took a bit longer than I had expected, AND I also was out on tour through Europe for a month in the middle of it all… so, cut me some slack 😉  I’ve been rehearsing for two different recording sessions, one with 23 Psaegz and another with a smaller contingency of that band tentatively named Multibird or VsVvs or Faergolzia.  Send us your votes as to which name you like best!

In case you don’t know yet, this song project involves recording 50 songs over the course of 2015 from the 100 songs I wrote during the end of 2014.  I’m nearing the end.  There are 39 completed at this time, but I’m waiting for mixes from John Kilgore and Jim McElwaine at Kilgore Sound for 3 of them, and I have not yet posted another few.  In addition to these, at the end of January, the Sages will be going into BlackDog, Rochester, NY, and the “unnamed contingency” will hit Kilgore Sound in February for the very last tracks.  50, maybe even 52 songs… a little late, but the art is what really matters.

This song, Devil, Devil is one facing up to that age old problem of mastering one’s self in order to defeat the negativity of the world.  I chose to use the devil mataphor though I’m not really a believer in the existence of that being.

[Dmin – F – E] 3x, then [G]

I really hate it when we’re tied together
I really hate it when we’re tied together
I really hate it when we’re tied together
Wonder if we’re stuck forever

[Dmin – F – E] 3x, then [G]

Hitching down the road of passion
I’m hitching down the road to passion
Hitching down the road of passion
Even when its out of fashion

[Dmin – F – E] 3x, then [G]

They say that nothing last forever
They say that nothing last forever
They say that nothing last forever
It’s also said that fate is clever

[Dmin – F – E] 3x, then [G]

Devil get out of my action
Devil stay out of my passion
Devil get out of my action
Devilry is out of fashion

[C – G – Dmin]

Devil, devil keep a poppin’ up and try to hand me a bottle
But I keep on refusing his gift
Cuz there’s a mental shift when I bring the spirits to my lips

Devil, devil try to own me, but no one owns me
I’ve got a mind of my own
Devil, devil try to own me, but no one owns me
I’ve got a mind of my own
Devil, devil try to own me, but no one owns me

[Dmin – F – E] 3x, then [G]

There’s a fate that ties this world together
There’s a fate that ties this world together
There’s a fate that ties this world together
Wonder if we’re stuck forever

[Dmin – F – E] 3x, then [G]

Tired of the mean and pointless
I’m sick of all the pain and sorrow
Pissed about a cursed tomorrow
No one knows the way to go

[C – G – Dmin]

Devil, devil keep a poppin’ up and try to hand me a bottle
But I keep on refusing his gift
Cuz there’s a mental shift when I bring the spirits to my lips

[C – G – Dmin]

Devil, devil try to own me, but no one owns me
I’ve got a mind of my own
Devil, devil try to own me, but no one owns me
I’ve got a mind of my own

[G – F – D – C] Devil, devil try to own me, but no one owns me
I’m going home
Devil, devil try to own me, but no one owns me
I’m going home
Devil, devil try to own me, but no one owns me
I’m going home

Song #29 – Hand Up Its Butt *FREE TRACK!!!*

Hey there!  Here’s my free track of the month.  I promised one free one every month.  I am running behind on posting these so I think this is actually July’s freebie.  I’ll be posting another 10 tracks in the coming week and a half, one per day.  Most of them are for subscribers only.  If you’re interested in subscribing just follow THIS LINK and sign up!  It’s not expensive and you get a ton of great material and an inside view into my process.

This song was written on an evening when I wanted to go out to a show my friend Matt O’Brian from the band Thunderbody was putting on.  I couldn’t go out to the show because I had to stay home and care for my child so I decided to write my version of a Thunderbody song, haha…. it’s nothing like what they do, but perhaps there is a glimmer of their style in there (they play reggae, I’d call this song a freak-prog-reggae tune).  I have been getting more and more interested in what’s happening in the governments of our world lately, so lyrically this came out… but also, I reference a Buddhist chant melody that I heard repeatedly for weeks when my daughter got her hands on one of those sweet Buddha boxes they sell.  It was our favorite tune on the box… just kinda came out in the song.  Anyway, I hope you all will enjoy this as much as I and the 23 Psaegz do.  It’s one of our faves!

Worry ’bout the past tomorrow
Nothing can you do today
When you’re looking down in sorrow
You will miss the point, they say

As they say, a puppet runs the world
Only has the power to wave a hand
With a hand up its butt
Better make a stand

You are on a mission of the utmostestest importance
Me, well, I’m the same, on the same mission

Oh….

All nations in the world resolving
To giving all they have to give
One by one all problems solving
Having all the space to live

UH!! Yeah!! UH!! YEAH!!!!!!!

We who we are, we are the young and free
We who we are, we are the young and free

Worry ’bout the past tomorrow
Nothing can you do today
When you’re looking down in sorrow
You will miss the point, they say

As they say, a puppet runs the world
Only has the power to wave a hand
With a hand up its butt
Better make a stand

You are on a mission of the utmostestest importance
Me, well, I’m the same, on the same mission

oh….

We who we are, we are the young and free
We who we are, we are the young and free.

Update

Hey Everybody,

I know it has been a while since I posted a new song to this page.  I apologize to all my subscribers for the hiccup.  Tour took a lot more out of me than I had expected!  It was a great journey through Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark and Sweden), but to suddenly jump back into recording and producing a new song every week was fairly impossible.  For those of you who are subscribed, I did recently create a new folder which contains 34 for of the 50 songs I promised to release this year.  We also recorded 3 new ones in NYC right before we flew out of the country.  So that puts me up to 37 so far this year!  I’m working on 8 songs with my band 23 Psaegz, and the other 5 will be done in my home studio.  My thought at this point is that it will probably all get done in January or maybe early February.  I forgot to account for life and rest when I created the goal of 50 songs in a year.  It’s quite a bit of work.  I hope you’ll all be patient and realize I’m just one man!!

So, after I get the 50 done, you will still have the opportunity to vote for which songs you like best and what will go onto the final album, but I’m thinking it might end up being two albums, one for the 23 Psaegz and one of my solo work in the home studio.  There’s so much good material, and it is all so varied in style and production!  I plan on continuing this subscription project but expanding it.  I’ll be opening it up to some other websites (although this one will always be my priority, releases etc. will be here first), and I’ll begin a year of video making.  I plan on making music videos for the top 5 songs from this year’s productions and also begin work on my puppet rock opera, which will eventually be a full length movie, but I’ll be releasing it in short webisodes over the course of the year.  So, please spread the word!  This has been a great boon to my creativity and inspiration.  I hope we can keep on with it and even make it grow!!

Here are some PHOTOS from the European tour, enjoy!!!

All the best,

Seth

Song #25 – Video Games With Real Guns **FREE SONG**

This is one of those songs that come out easy, and I don’t really give much thought to until I start playing it over and over again when suddenly I realize their true power to move me.  I love this one a ton.  That’s why I’m giving it away for free to the general public.  I hope you will all enjoy it as much as I do!  Special thanks to 23 Psaegz for all their work preparing the songs and recording them at Blackdog Recording Studios in Rochester, NY.  There were seven songs in total we recorded during these sessions, and I’ll be releasing them over the course of the next few weeks.  Enjoy!!

VIDEO GAMES WITH REAL GUNS – © ⓟ 2014 Seth Faergolzia, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

When the wrecking ball makes all come down

When you’re standing in your destroyed town

You take picture on your phone

Send it to the drones

Send it to the clones

Perhaps the pic will end up viral

Thousands will pretend they care

Your pain and grief will make you famous

But you’re still standing there, dust collecting in your hair

Till you finally start to walk away

Everywhere you go they think you’re homeless

That’s not exactly what you are though

Your home was destroyed, and now you’ve nowhere to go

Into the mountains where you’re looking down

See it’s happening to every town

People doing it are playing games

Video games with real guns, and don’t say it ain’t a shame

So you attempt to bring them back

To reality through desperation

They cannot see the lives they take

Sat at a desk with numbers spilling out of their hands

Your vision grows across the world

Finding its way to all the boys and girls

They spill into the streets in numbers too large to contain

But are they desperate as you?

It’s not the numbers but the drive inside

You’ve got to show them that the fight is alive

Got break the shell of protected ignorance

Expose the innocence and teach the clone how to cry.
